|Gene Description||COX2, mitochondrially encoded cytochrome c oxidase II, is one of 13 subunits that form Complex IV (CIV) in the mitochondrial respiratory chain (PMID: 28521807) that produces nitric oxide and PGE2 and plays a role in inflammation and response to hypoxia (PMID: 30152521, PMID: 30341914). Overexpression of Cox2 has been observed in many solid tumors, including gastric cancer (PMID: 31892585), breast cancer (PMID: 30152521), and prostate cancer (PMID: 30402808), where Cox2 has been associated with decreased survival, and somatic variants have been identified in MUTYH-associated polyposis (PMID: 26138249).|
