Gene Description PDCD1, programmed cell death 1, encodes the receptor PD-1, which is expressed on immune cells and has an inhibitory effect on immune response upon interaction with its ligands, PD-L1 (CD274) and PD-L2 (PDCD1LG2) (PMID: 26681673, PMID: 24403232). PDCD1 (PD-1) inhibition in cancer therapy may relieve suppression of anti-tumor immune response (PMID: 26325035, PMID: 26681673, PMID: 26320063, PMID: 24403232, PMID: 31978315, PMID: 32266087, PMID: 32246277).
