Gene Description

WT1, WT1 transcription factor, encodes a transcription factor responsible for targeting genes related to cell growth and metabolism (PMID: 17361230), such as VEGF and BCL2 (PMID: 32152317). Germline mutations in WT1 are involved in the development of Wilms' tumor of the kidney and somatic mutations are observed in other cancers, including acute myeloid leukemia (PMID: 16987884, PMID: 17361230, PMID: 32122281), and normal karyotype acute myeloid leukemia, where mutations may predict a poor prognosis (PMID: 32019476).
