Gene Description SMC1A, structural maintenance of chromosomes 1A, is a member of the cohesion complex, which potentially regulates cell cycle, and plays a role in the cellular proliferation, migration and apoptosis (PMID: 23426528, PMID: 29988990; PMID: 30242889). Mutations in SMC1A have been identified in colorectal cancer, and overexpression has been demonstrated in colorectal carcinoma (PMID: 30823889), hepatocellular carcinoma (PMID: 29988990), and prostate cancer (PMID: 30242889).
